FIS and BIDV Launch Card Payment System Transformation Project

31 tháng 5 năm 2024

Recently, BIDV, OpenWay Asia Private Limited, and FIS officially launched the Card Payment System Transformation project. This is a significant step for BIDV in realizing its digital transformation goals by 2030, while also enhancing BIDV's competitive advantage in the market.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Giao, Deputy General Director of BIDV and Deputy Head of the project's Steering Committee, the card payment system transformation involves a comprehensive overhaul of all card operations, including replacing the card payment system platform, migrating data, redesigning BIDV's internal business processes, and transforming the customer experience journey. "We believe that with the combined efforts of FIS and OpenWay Asia, the system will be implemented smoothly, benefiting customers and marking a crucial step in BIDV's digital transformation journey."

Representing FIS, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FIS, stated: "Today's project launch is a special event as it marks the first time FIS has collaborated with OpenWay Asia, a world-leading card payment solutions provider, to deploy a Core Card project at BIDV. Over nearly three decades of partnership (1994-2024), FIS and BIDV have engaged in extensive cooperation, implementing numerous key projects in areas such as Switching, Cards, ATMs, Servers, ERP, and more. FIS is honored to be a partner implementing many projects for major clients in Vietnam and the region, providing solutions from leading global technology companies. Leveraging these advantages, in close collaboration with OpenWay Asia, FIS commits technological and human resources, working closely with BIDV to ensure the successful and timely implementation of the project."

Reiterating the project's importance, Mr. Le Ngoc Lam, General Director of BIDV and Head of the project's Steering Committee, shared: "Transforming the Card Payment System involves transitioning a highly complex system in terms of technology, processes, and the vast number of BIDV's application software. This project demonstrates our efforts to better meet customer needs and helps realize key components of BIDV's Digital Transformation Strategy. We expect that the experience and close collaboration between BIDV and the FIS-OpenWay consortium will be decisive factors for the project's success."

With over 1.1 million international cards, more than 2,087 ATMs/CRMs, and 109,706 POS devices, BIDV is one of the largest banks in the market in terms of card payment scale and market share. Conversely, BIDV's card payment system is facing challenges due to the complexity and fragmentation of three main systems and over 70 satellite application software. With the new Core Card System, BIDV will gain significant advantages:

  • BIDV will have a new, centralized, modern card payment system with an open architecture, a comprehensive API set, and flexible parameterization capabilities.
  • BIDV will control the technology platform of the Card System, diversify integration options, and meet the diversification needs of card products and digital payment services.
  • The new system will enable BIDV to proactively develop and upgrade products and services, while reducing development costs and time, thereby supporting BIDV's strategic objectives and business development plans.

Given the project's importance, the leadership of all three parties and the project team are committed to investing resources and technology to bring BIDV's new Card Payment System into operation on schedule.
